Care Instructions
This board is made from kiln dried oak. We take every care to ensure that this chopping board will give you many years of trouble-free use. However, wood is a natural product and the way that you treat this board will make a difference to how well it lasts.
This chopping board should stay flat over time although wood is very sensitive to humidity and it may move if the atmospheric conditions change. This can be avoided by following the instructions.
Do not put hot pans on this chopping board, as this may mark or damage the surface.
Washing and drying:
Do not wash in a dishwasher.
Never leave this board soaking or standing in water.
When handwashing, do not use strong detergents or abrasive cleaning materials. For best results,
wash with a mild detergent and dry immediately.
Storage
Do not store in a cupboard or other place which suffers from damp.
Do not store in direct sunlight, for example on a windowsill.
If this board is kept in a sunny location, bear in mind that its colour may fade over time.
If the board is kept on a worksurface, turn it occasionally so that both sides are used.
Refinishing
This board has been finished with ‘Skydd wood treatment oil’ from Ikea. Although it should not require more coats, if the board is used daily and washed frequently, or if it is used to prepare strongly coloured or strongly flavoured ingredients, you may wish to purchase a bottle and apply a coat from time to time in order to protect the wood and extend its useful life. If this product is no longer available, a similar food-safe chopping board oil would probably work equally well.
To refinish, wash and thoroughly dry the board. If the board has become rough to the touch, you can use a fine-grit sanding paper such as 240g or 320g to smooth the rough surface first. Wrap the sandpaper around a flat block of wood, or cork sanding block. It is advisable to wear a dust mask.
Wipe off the dust created before applying oil. Apply a coat using a piece of cloth or paper towel, then leave to dry for at least 72 hours. The oil may transfer to other surfaces through contact for some time after oiling. Follow any instructions given on the bottle itself.
